The Sibos Academy programme launches this year, bringing the community educationally focussed content curated by the SWIFT Institute. The sessions taking place during the four-day event in October and monthly thereafter will stimulate and facilitate debate on real issues shaping the industry’s future.
Taking a simple topic or question as a starting point, such as ‘what is a central bank digital currency?’ the purpose of the Sibos Academy is to deconstruct and evolve the issue. This is achieved by examining its composite parts, and broadening the conversation and sector knowledge through insights from industry, as well as non-industry experts, such as academics.
The new stream incorporates the annual SWIFT Institute Student Challenge, now in its fifth year, which fosters creative, fresh and inspirational ideas from bright and inquisitive minds. This year university students have come up with novel ways to improve cyber security in financial services. Four ideas have been chosen from student teams at leading US universities, who will pitch these in 10 minutes presentations from 5-8 October. The winning team will walk away with a grand prize of USD $10,000.
The October Sessions
The first session Defining central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) will get to the heart of what CBDCs actually are, and how they could be implemented across world economies.
