Each session, spread across all four days of Sibos week, will consist of talks showcasing unique academic research from world-leading experts.</p> The Sibos Academy sessions</h4> In the first session on Monday at 09:00, How to weave ESG into your organisation’s strategy</strong>, Professor Walid Hejazi, Academic Director at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, will highlight four common myths associated with ESG and discuss how fully integrating ESG into organisational cultures can be a source of competitive advantage.</li></ul> In Tuesday’s session at 09:15, The quantum threat: How to navigate new cybersecurity challenges</strong>, our expert speakers will explore the current quantum cybersecurity landscape and discuss strategies for identifying new threats as well as practical steps organisations can take to ensure security and resilience. The session will feature CIBC’s Kenneth Giuliani, Mercedes Gilroy of evolutionQ, Dr. Atefah Mashatan, from the Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and Michele Mosca from the University of Waterloo.</li></ul> Wednesday’s session at 09:00, Accelerated settlements: Are we ready?</strong>, will showcase the findings of recent Swift Institute research conducted by Anthony Gandy, Visiting Professor at the London Institute of Banking and Finance and director at ISITC Europe, on industry readiness for T+1 settlement. Then a global panel, with representatives from the Canadian Capital Markets Association, the China Securities Depositary and Clearing Co. (CSDC), DTCC and ISITC Europe will discuss the move to T+1 from their perspectives.</li></ul> In the first session on Thursday at 09:15, Payments data: The ultimate weapon against financial crime?</strong>, featuring Beju Shah, Head of Nordics for the Bank for International Settlements' (BIS) Innovation Hub presenting highlights of 'Project Aurora' - a major study. This work examines processes and technology that can connect payments data and improve economic crime detection rates. Nick Maxwell, Head of the Future of Financial Intelligence Sharing (FFIS) at the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), will preview his new study on the economic crime security dimensions of G20 payments reform. They will discuss the most effective way of understanding financial crime threats at a national and international level.</li></ul> In the final Sibos Academy session on Thursday at 12:00, Structural Conflicts in Central Banking: Regulator or Operator of a Payment System?</strong>, Aaron Klein, Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution, will delve into his latest research on the multiple roles of central banks and payment systems and whether they are in conflict with each other. This presentation will be followed by a fireside chat with Gunveer Singh, Chief General Manager at Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a view from a Central Bank.</li></ul> Swift Institute Student Challenge</h4> Now in its eighth year, the Swift Institute Student Challenge presents financial solutions from the next generation of industry innovators. The competition will feature three teams of undergraduate students from the Toronto area, including two from the University of Toronto and one from the University of York. This year’s challenge will explore how banks can leverage AI & machine learning to improve their customer experience</strong>.</p> The finalist teams will have the opportunity to present their ideas to industry leaders from Payments Canada, Scotiabank, Swift and TD Bank during Sibos 2023, where they will be judged on their innovativeness, feasibility and style.
