As the Sibos 2022 conference agenda centres on progressive finance for a changing world, a pivotal sub-theme that will be debated throughout the conference week will be the dominant issues driving sustainability and ethics forward.
Climate and environmental risks, as well as social and governance issues, are unavoidable challenges for the financial ecosystem, yet they also present new opportunities for investment and the security of the global economy. Experts and thought leaders will join together at Sibos to discuss how the financial community can not only embrace sustainable and ethical practices but lead the transformation.
Driving Sustainability and Ethics
Over recent years, the concept of sustainability in finance has been of growing significance. Companies are dedicating increasing time and resources into how ESG can be implemented across their organisations by leveraging core assets to enable sustainability. Where profit was once the highest concern, people and planet have become key parts of financial services providers’ strategies.
Investing in ESG frameworks is now the fastest growing segment in the asset management industry. New investors and consumers are demanding more sustainable options and companies are adopting strategies that promise positive environmental and social change. Higher company ESG ratings are now associated with better long-term investments. At the same time, ESG frameworks face many challenges – lack of transparency, greenwashing and the inclusion of non-sustainable assets.
Key market participants such as banks, investors, rating agencies and regulators are working to define these risk characteristics to ensure ESG-compliant financing and banking services. Requirements like the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regime (SFDR) and new climate-related risk disclosures from the SEC and FCA are part of the initiative to add transparency to markets. By harnessing big data and embracing technology, industry leaders are identifying, measuring and reporting ESG metrics, ensuring compliance at an organisation-wide level.
The dynamic cultural shifts and urgency to reduce our ecological impact are unavoidable concerns, but also offer a chance for the finance industry to enable a better future. Sustainability and ethics are at the heart of the 2022 conference agenda, with topics like climate reporting, ESG standardisation, workplace culture, and financial inclusion set to be debated and discussed.
Some of the conference sessions on driving sustainability and ethics in which subject matter experts will debate and discuss key topics include:
Green, clean, and ESG: Rewiring capital markets for a new generation of responsible investors
Harnessing big data towards ESG compliance
The Great Return: A key moment for talent and culture
Sustainable Finance: Impact of ESG towards a better future

To further our commitment, Sibos is also taking action to reduce our environmental impact and drive positive change as we return to an in-person event. Smart exhibition design and recycling, waste reduction, locally sourced catering, charity partnerships and showcasing the full range of talent across the financial community are just some of the ways we aim to make Sibos as sustainable and inclusive as possible. We are also working together with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Ark Nature to help transform the Kempen-Broek chain of nature reserves into a robust, connected wilderness area and offset emissions generated from the event.
Register now to join us in Amsterdam from 10-13 October 2022.
