Connecting the future of finance
Our 2024 conference theme was ‘Connecting the future of finance’, acknowledging that our industry stands at a crossroads, where unprecedented opportunities converge with formidable challenges. As we embrace rapid digital transformation, we also need to collaborate more than ever to foster a resilient and inclusive financial ecosystem.
Thought leaders from around the world shared insights across areas such as AI, digital currencies, tokenisation, ISO 20022, ESG, embedded finance, interoperability and compliance.
Conference favourite sessions like View from the Top, Inside Leadership, Big Issue Debates, Industry sessions and Swift Innotribe returned for one of the most in-depth and exciting conference programmes to date.
Publicly available sessions are available on Sibos TV.
Back together again
Find out more about Sibos 2024, including the conference programme and speakers, and our strategic partners:
At Sibos we’re committed to protecting the environment, caring for the community and promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
Working collaboratively with the 2024 venue, the China National Convention Centre, as well as exhibitors and participants, there was a significant focus on reducing the impact of the event production and supporting the local economy.
Sibos 2024 included a wide range of sustainability initiatives such as support for WWF’s Living Yangtze initiative in China and giving back to the local community through Sibos 2024’s charity partner, the Beijing Charity Association.
The Sibos Sustainability Pledge
The Sibos Sustainability Pledge launched in 2023 to drive positive change among the Sibos community. To take part in 2024 we asked exhibitors and participants to commit to at least five specific actions, ranging from choosing a meat-free lunch for at least one day of the event, supporting our charity partner or attending a conference session addressing diversity in the workplace.
Promoting biodiversity and climate resilience
For many years, Sibos has contributed to nature conservation projects as part of our sustainability efforts.
In 2024, we supported WWF’s Living Yangtze initiative in China, which works to restore habitats for biodiversity, strengthen their adaption to climate change and fight pollution.
The Yangtze is the world’s third longest river and provides water, food and livelihoods for hundreds of millions of people in China. It's also home to incredible biodiversity from giant pandas and snow leopards to over 400 species of fish and the world’s only freshwater porpoise.
Reduce, reuse, recycle
Sustainability is always at the heart of the design and production of all Sibos and Swift exhibition features. We continuously look to limit the volume of materials used, source items locally to prevent unnecessary transportation, and choose options that can be rented, reused or repurposed. In 2024, 70% of materials used for Sibos features and the Swift stand were rented or repurposed, and 78% were sourced from local suppliers.
The carpet was recyclable and badges and lanyards were collected and recycled.
In addition, the China National Convention Centre, used mainly green electricity to power Sibos and offered 54% plant-based catering options.
Collaboration with our exhibitors and support from participants is key and together we can make a difference. We provide a range of support to help exhibitors create and manage sustainable stands. We also ask them to think carefully about any giveaways, energy usage and to repurpose and recycle unavoidable waste. Participants were encouraged to reduce waste though using reusable water bottles, taking advantage of our digital Newscorner and recycling their waste correctly.
Keeping it local
In support of the local economy, Sibos, Swift and their partners who helped to build the event hired 85% of staff locally.
Giving something back
In 2024 our charity partner was the Beijing Charity Association (BCA), a non-profit network of organisations which help orphans, students, elderly or disabled people in need of financial or healthcare assistance.
Sibos provided funding to the BCA, and at the end of Sibos week, offered a collection service so exhibitors could donate reusable stand items such as furniture, potted plants, books and carpet.
Enabling talent to shine
In 2024, our STAR Scholars programme (Sibos Talent Accelerator Route) brought together more than 30 women in finance who’ve made outstanding contributions to their organisations. They benefitted from a dedicated Sibos week programme designed to expand their networks and support their career progression to the next level. Post Sibos feedback from the Scholars reported that 100% found the programme valuable to advance their career in financial services.
Showcasing the Sibos community
Sibos supports the Inclusive Panels Charter, and our conference programme was carefully curated to ensure it featured speakers from a broad range of regions, cultures and backgrounds. Across the Sibos 2024 conference programme 39% of speakers were female.
Sibos TV featured 32 hours of livestreaming and more than 80 guests in Toronto with leaders from across the finance industry. Catch the best of Sibos TV now.
